Umoja Operation Compassion Society

Umoja Operation Compassion Society is a non-profit organization dedicated to helping African and other immigrant and refugee families successfully integrate into the Canadian culture while embracing their cultural roots.

Umoja Operation Compassion Society was formed by African immigrants who live in Canada and have experienced culture shock, isolation, issues surrounding integration and numerous other difficulties.

They provide assistance to immigrant families through child-minding, ESL, and information and referral programs. In regards to Residential Tenancy and Employment Law, they also provide information and referral services.

Umoja has an outreach program where the outreach worker assists families to access recourses, learn about local community activities, schools, social services, housing, referrals and accompaniment to appropriate recourses. There is also a parents open discussion groups about parenting, emotional support for one another as parents share stories and experiences of cross cultural parenting in a new culture. As well parents get together every Saturday to discuss issues of integration, employment, and social connections. This is an exciting program where parents connect with one another to create friendship.
