MOSAIC
MOSAIC is a multilingual non-profit organization dedicated to addressing issues that affect immigrants and refugees in the course of their settlement and integration into Canadian society. Services include ESL programs, employment programs, family support programs, legal advocacy, interpretation and translation, and community outreach.
MOSAIC Burnaby Chinese Christian Centre provides one Chinese speaking settlement worker who can provide skills development training and information on the labour market. MOSAIC Burnaby Kingsway and MOSAIC New Westminster (Fraserside Community Services) provide particular services in the area of settlement and employment. They will provide full assessments, orientation, and referrals to adequate services.
MOSAIC Vancouver offers a Legal Advocacy Program specializing in Immigration and Poverty Law. They also offer a Drop-in Centre for temporary foreign workers looking for information on Employment Standards, immigration issues, housing, Canadian school system, Residential Tenancy Law, health benefits, etc. The Legal Advocacy Program has one publication about Family Law (English) and provides occasional workshops on Family Law topics.
MOSAIC's Family Programs focus on Early Childhood Development and Education (ECD and ECE), Violence Prevention and Counselling, and Youth. Violence prevention and counselling programs include: Legal Education for the South Asian Community (LEAPV), Men in Change, Multicultural Victim Services (community based), Stopping the Violence, and Vietnamese Family Counselling.
MOSAIC New Westminster provides settlement and referral services only. MOSAIC is also the lead agency for the STEP AHEAD pilot project created by a consortium of 5 agencies: MOSAIC, Burnaby Family Life, DIVERSEcity, Immigrant Services Society and SUCCESS. Step Ahead is designed to assist refugees and immigrants who are facing multiple challenges to their settlement. The hallmark of Step Ahead is mobile outreach, using a case management approach. For more information about this project contact Marc L'Arrive at 604-720-2933.
