West Coast Family Resources Society

Westcoast Family Resources Society - Tri Cities is a parent education and support resource for families with children from birth to twelve years of age. Services are free of charge and referrals come from the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). Self-referral is accepted for their Special Project groups such as Mother Goose, You Make the Difference, Make the Connection, and Budget Gourmet. They strive to promote the safety and well-being of all children and families.

Through their programs they hope to reduce isolation in the community and make the family unit stronger. One way they help to do this is by connecting families to resources such as specialized counselling. Food banks and financial supports, recreational- and play-based programs, other parenting type programs and support groups in their community.

They do not deal directly with Family Law issues but they are more likely to assist families in finding the necessary resources in the community or steering them in the direction of someone that can refer them to such services.

In terms of domestic violence, they do safety planning, assist families in finding transition housing, assist families in finding counselling services, and connect people with services that can support them through the court process such as Tri-City Women's Resource Society.

Westcoast Family Resources Society - Tri Cities welcomes frontline workers with anything that can support their work with families, including knowledge on how to access services easier, what services may be available that they are unaware of, how and where to access legal advice. Westcoast Family Resources Society - North Shore, and Family Services of the North Shore work together to provide variety of services for families in their community. They are part of the larger North Shore Youth and Family Services and are funded by the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD). Services are free to families with children from birth to nineteen years. Families using the Family Preservation and Reunification Services are referred by MCFD.

Family Support Services and Parent Training and Education Groups are open to the community through self-referral and open to MCFD referrals. They provide in-home support that is strength-based and designed to increase safety and stability in the family. The Parent Training and Education Groups are designed to provide additional support, education and modelling in parenting, child development, child management or problem solving.
