SHARE Family and Community Services - Legal Advocacy Program
SHARE Family & Community Services Society is a non-profit, independent, community based agency providing leadership and programs in response to the social needs of the residents of the Tri-Cities (Coquitlam, Port Coquitlam, Port Moody, Anmore and Belcarra) and adjacent communities. SHARE offers a pro bono law clinic one afternoon per month. The clinic offers a free 30 minute consultation with a qualified lawyer. Legal referrals are also made by agency staff, including the in-house Legal Advocate.
Ending Violence Against Women (EVAW) Program provides services in English. Individual, Couple and Family Counselling is provided in different languages. A portion of the weekly EVAW program is dedicated to psycho-education on issues pertaining to Intimate Partner Violence, for example: types of abuse, the dynamics of abuse, safety plans, leaving, etc. They also have frequent guest speakers to the EVAW program to discuss relevant supports and services, for example: victim services, legal services, policing, men's treatment, and other IPV programs.
The target audience is women in abusive relationships or women who have a history of abusive relationships. The EVAW program offers free child minding services for the EVAW participants. The group is drop-in and the women are welcome to attend after contacting reception at (604) 936-3900.
SHARE has 50+ DVD brochures developed by other organizations. For instance, in English they use YWCA (STV), LSS, LawLink, Dial a Law, Legal Aid, Family Justice Centre, Living Common Law: Your Rights and Responsibilities, Family Problems: Where to Get Legal Help, Child Support in BC, No Contact Orders Explained, Child Protection Law. Speaking of Abuse (LSS) is offered in English, Chinese Traditional, Farsi, Punjabi, Spanish and Vietnamese.
