Kettle Friendship Society
The Kettle Friendship Society helps individuals dealing with mental illness (and the stigma that comes along with it), low incomes, and substance abuse by providing information and referrals with regard to mental health, income assistance, debt, child protection, and tenancy matters.
Community programs for their clients include a Mental Health Drop-In Centre, advocacy services, an on-site Health Clinic, outreach services, their SEED (Skills, Esteem and Employment Development) program, volunteer opportunities, and recreational and life-skill programs.
The Kettle staffs a full-time legal advocate to provide legal advocacy services to people living with a mental illness and involved with the Ministry of Children and Family Development. Where there is no MCFD involvement, they provide information and referrals only. The Advocate speaks English only but will provide service to everyone they can.
The Society also offers workshops or speakers for workshops for the following topics: Advocacy Skills, Confidentiality and Privacy, Working with Mental Health Clients, Child Protection Issues, and Income Assistance Matters. All requests should be provided in writing with specific topic information to Kristi Yuris at kyuris(at)thekettle.ca.
