Family Services of Greater Vancouver
The Family Services of Greater Vancouver (FSGV) Counselling Program provides professional counselling to children, adults, couples, and families living in the Lower Mainland, with offices in Vancouver, New Westminster and Richmond.
Their professionally trained counselling assists families, couples, and individuals in discovering their strengths, making the life changes they desire, improving relationships, and developing problem-solving and communication skills. This service is available at the Vancouver, New Westminster and Richmond locations.
The Domestic Violence Response Team with New Westminster Police Service and the Domestic Violence Unit with the Vancouver Police Department have also been created. These are joint partnerships between FSGV and the above noted police departments, where teams made up of counsellors and police officers provide rapid follow-up on the most severe, high-risk and chronic situations of domestic violence reported to police.
The Victim Service Program is based out of the New Westminster office. Its mandate is to serve Burnaby and New Westminster adults who have been victims of violent crimes. Victim support workers provide one-to-one support to adults who have experienced relationship violence, sexual assault, historical child physical/sexual abuse, or criminal harassment.
The Victim Support Services offers support and information to children and adolescents who have been sexually/physically abused and their non-offending family members, where criminal charges against the offender are anticipated or have been laid. The program also works with children and youth witnesses of crime and provides information and support to adult survivors of child sexual/physical abuse. This program is based out of the Vancouver office.
