Chinese Community Policing Centre - Victim Services Program
The Chinese Community Policing Centre (CCPC) was founded in 1992 by the Chinese Benevolent Association, Chinese Cultural Centre, S.U.C.C.E.S.S., Vancouver Chinatown Merchants Association, and Chinese Freemasons. Its mandate is to foster and strengthen positive relationships and facilitate communication between the police and the Chinese speaking people thus enhancing the accessibility of police services to the Chinese community.
The Centre delivers crime prevention programs in partnership with the Vancouver Police Department, local community associations, schools, and seniors centres to help reduce the incidence and impact of crime. Its Victim Service Program provides assistance to Chinese speaking victims of crime from the initial reporting, through referral to other agencies, to participation in the criminal justice system. Translation and interpretation are available at all stages.
The Program's services, offered mostly in Cantonese and Mandarin, include emotional support, witness orientation/information, court accompaniment, assistance with Victim Impact Statements, case/trial updates, information on criminal justice system structure and process, assistance with CVAP, safety planning, assistance with Victim Safety Unit, assistance with shelter, hospital accompaniment, and liaison with other agencies on behalf of client. The Centre also accepts 3rd party referrals.
Patrol programs are maintained within the Chinatown area to create a safer, more vibrant environment for local businesses, residents, and visitors. The Centre publishes a brochure focusing on its programs and services. Also available are
