BC Yukon Society of Transition Houses (BCYTH)

BC Society of Transition Houses (BCSTH) is a Centre of Excellence enhancing the continuum of services and strategies necessary to end violence against women, children and youth. As an umbrella organization supporting over 250 programs across BC, BCSTH provides essential resources and support to their membership who further offer excellent, barrier-free, front line, direct services to women, children and youth fleeing violence.

Its members are Transition Houses, Second Stage, Third Stage, Safe Homes and Children Who Witness Abuse (CWWA) programs. CWWA Programs offer both individual and group counselling for children and youth aged 3 to 18 who have been exposed to violence in the home.

BCSTH fulfills its mission by providing research, education and training, an annual conference, best practice guides and models of service delivery and a provincial intersectoral newsletter to their members. It works to enhance the prevention of violence through public education campaigns. It also links schools with the CWWA program through its Violence Is Preventable project (VIP).

Resources for the CWWA Program are in English and include: Best Practices for CWWA Programs, Helping My Child, Kids Helping Kids, Interventions with Children Exposed to Domestic Violence (in collaboration with BC Children's Hospital), and the CWWA Resource List. Resources for Women's Services are in English and include Family Law Manual (in collaboration with EVA BC), Records Management Guidelines, and resources on Abuse of Older Women. A list of programs is also available.
