BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre
BC Women's Hospital & Health Centre, an agency of the Provincial Health Services Authority, is the only facility in BC devoted primarily to the health of women, newborns, and families. It provides a broad range of specialized, tertiary, primary and secondary health services that address the health needs of women of all ages and backgrounds. While providing services in English, the Hospital has access to the Provincial Language Services for interpretation needs. The Woman Abuse Response Program at BC Women's Hospital and Health Centre focuses primarily on violence against women and its health impacts through training, resource development, consultation, and clinical support to health care staff in communities across BC.
A major program initiative is Building Bridges, which explores the links between violence, substance use and mental ill health in women's lives. Also offered is the Sexual Assault Service (SAS) delivering comprehensive care to survivors of sexual assault.
The Woman Abuse Response Program carries out extensive training and workshops on violence against women targeting service providers (health care, community organizations, women's organizations, mental health and addictions, MCFD, etc.). Discussions are ongoing for education sessions for women on various aspects of women's health including Family Law, violence, etc.
Professional resources include the SHE Framework (Safety & Health Enhancement) for Women Experiencing Abuse, Women-Centred Care, Building Bridges: Linking Women Abuse, Substance Use, and Mental Ill Health besides others.
